AB The latest (2023) guideline on atrial fibrillation from the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American College of Chest Physicians, and Heart Rhythm Society introduces a new staging system for the disease, emphasizes risk-factor modification, prioritizes rhythm control over rate control, and clarifies which patients should be considered for catheter ablation. It also delves deeper than earlier guidelines into calculations of risk of thrombosis when deciding whether to start anticoagulant therapy.
