Fortunately, they are asymptomatic in up to 80% of cases, and current guidelines do not recommend cholecystectomy unless they cause symptoms. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard treatment for symptomatic gallstones, acute cholecystitis, and gallstone pancreatitis.
