AB In appropriately selected patients, total pancreatectomy and islet cell autotransplant controls pain and improves quality of life while often minimizing the development of overt diabetes. Multidisciplinary management and lifelong follow-up help to maximize the benefit of this procedure. This review highlights its history, indications, metabolic outcomes, and future directions.
