This article reviews the new definition of ARDS and the key findings of landmark studies over the last 5 years of prone-position ventilation, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and neuromuscular blockade in patients with ARDS.
