Pharmacoeconomic analysis is a valuable tool in assessing antibacterial agents for their place in institutional formularies. This article reviews various types of pharmacoeconomic analyses, their respective limitations, and their roles in the antibacterial formu-lary decision-making process. We also discuss the current state of the antibacterial pharmacoeconomic literature, including the economic impact of antimicrobial resistance.
