AB Because the landmark trials of lipid-lowering statin drugs excluded patients with very high triglyceride levels, the optimal management of hypertriglyceridemia for atherosclerosis prevention is unknown. The third report of the National Cholesterol Education Program’s Adult Treatment Panel (ATP-III) provides a much-needed strategy for managing patients with high triglycerides, based on the best available evidence.
