AB Endogenously produced nitric oxide plays a major role in lung physiology and pathology. Inhaled nitric oxide given exogenously has been studied extensively as a treatment for many lung diseases, and the results suggest that it may help improve oxygenation in some patients. Several issues need to be addressed, however, before it can be used in routine clinical practice.
