This tumor caused a sodium- and chloride-rich secretion into the biliary tree. A percutaneous transhepatic drainage tube was inserted, and the resultant fluid loss caused hyponatremia, hypochloremia, and oliguric renal failure. Villous tumors of the ampulla may sometimes secrete large quantities of fluid in a manner analogous to rectal villous tumors.
