AB  - The epidemiologic and pathologic evidence that fenfluramine and related drugs cause valvular heart disease is still speculative. However, at present, there is no alternative explanation for the cases of valvular disease found in patients taking these drugs, and there is evidence that similar substances can cause similar lesions. The manufacturer of fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine has prudently removed them from sale pending further studies.
