AB Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) has only recently been documented in association with human immunodeficiency virus infection. The authors present the clinical, laboratory, and pathologic features of a unique case of secondary thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura occurring in a patient with AIDS, including the immunohistologic characterization of the vascular thrombi. They also review 12 previously reported cases of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection.
