The technique of contrast injection and visualization is described. The clinical applications in evaluating septal abnormalities, corrected transposition of the great vessels, persistent left superior vena cava, and tricuspid valve abnormalities are discussed. Applications during catheterization of the left side of the heart are discussed. The routine use of this method in the diagnosis of adult congenital heart disease should be limited to a qualitative assessment of intracardiac structure and function.
