At that time, the numbers herein were current. Since then, the number of reported cases of AIDS in the United States has surpassed 120,000, and includes more than 2,000 children; the number of American deaths from AIDS has exceeded those occurring as a result of the Vietnam war; and AZT has been recommended for use in both mildly asymptomatic and asymptomatic HIV-infected persons.
