Investigating the association of bed bugs with infectious diseases: A retrospective case-control study
2021, HeliyonCitation Excerpt :Patients with higher eosinophil percentages in the blood were more likely to be infested with bed bugs. Eosinophilia has been reported previously in a small number of case reports, and it has been observed in skin biopsies from patients with bed bugs [26, 27, 28, 29]. Similarly, mice that were fed on by bed bugs had higher eosinophil, basophil, and monocyte counts [30], and eosinophilia have been reported with Pediculus humanus capitis (head lice) and Pediculus humanus corporis (body lice) infestations, consistent with our findings [31].
Ivermectin causes Cimex lectularius (Bedbug) morbidity and mortality
2013, Journal of Emergency MedicineCitation Excerpt :Bedbugs are difficult to eradicate, resistant to many pesticides, and can require several attempts at elimination with the assistance of professional exterminators. Exterminators often use pesticides and heat treatments that can cost thousands of dollars (12,13). In addition, control of an infestation involves removing clutter, scrubbing infested surfaces to displace eggs, vacuuming potentially infected areas, and sealing up mattresses and furniture in plastic wrap for up to a year (1).
